Issue Position: Guns and Gun Safety

Issue Position

I support the right of individuals 21 years of age and older to buy and own guns.
I will support legislation requiring that all guns purchased through retail outlets, private sales, and gun shows to be registered with an appropriate state agency and that all sales be subject to a universal background check.

I support legislation restricting the size of high-capacity magazines for handguns and rifles and would support bills requiring the prompt reporting of lost and stolen firearms. I oppose both the sale and use of bump stocks which enhance the speed at which a weapon can be fired, and any efforts to repeal Minnesota statues regulating possession of assault weapons. I also oppose arming teachers, administrators or school personnel. I also support the "red flag" legislation adopted or considered in states around the country.
